A hardy shout out to our own Stephen Barr, SVP Group Publisher at Johnson Publishing for winning MIN’s prestigious and highly competitive Sales Team Leader-Total Integrated Program award on June 3rd at NY’s Grand Hyatt! I got word just after 9am via a quick email from Wired’s Stefanie Rapp sharing the news.
While this certainly was a crowded category of accomplished execs, MIN nailed it by lauding Stephen, as he has done remarkably well in his first two years at JPC. Consider the circumstances when he started: a new CEO, new Publisher, new Marketing Director, new Editor in Chief, entirely new sales and marketing teams, editorial and website redesigns…..and….amidst all this, flagship Ebony ended the year up 22% in pages, while their most direct and fierce competition, Essence, was down double-digits during the same time period! Yes this is wildly compelling, but even more impressive is that they are building on this success with increases over 2012 so far this year!
I have noticed the expansion of MIN’s awards in the past year, and complement them on several new creative and very relevant category additions to the platform. Well done MIN!
